Trade Fair shows off students' inventions

An automated water
tap designed to assist the elderly, amputees or people with arthritis
was just one of the innovative projects on display at the University of
Wollongongês annual Electrical Engineering Trade Fair.
The trade fair, hosted
by the School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering
was held at the University on Friday October 1.
It showcased products
developed by second and third year students enrolled in Engineering Design
and Management, Mechatronics Design and Internet Science and Technology.
Other products on
show included an online fitness and gym planner, a student real estate
web site, an internet VCR controller and a braille keyboard and braille
learning package.
The projects allow
students to explore concepts such as teamwork, project control, budgeting
and, in general, the design enterprise.

Visitors to
the Electrical Engineering Trade Fair check out the 'Splat Mat,
a package that contains an enhanced computer program that facilitates
maths learning. The package also comes with a specially designed
jump mat, which is integrated into the modified keyboard to maximise
childrens' learning skills with a game.
