When Hazelhurst Gallery
at Gymea hosted the Common Ground exhibition about the Royal National
Park from June to August, part of its success was dur to the enthusiasm
of the Gallery's volunteers.
The exhibition, an
initiative of the University of Wollongong, featured contemporary artwork
exploring the many aspects of Australia's first national park, which both
seperates and binds Sutherland Shire and Wollongong.
The volunteers' enthusiasm
and involvement in their roles as guides and attendants helped make the
exhibition an outstanding success.
Last week the University
recognised their contribution when it hosted a lunch and campus visit
for 26 of the volunteers. The visitors were particularly impressed by
the Campus' bushland setting, and the University's art collection.
Volunteer Bev Owen,
pictured with UOW Art Curator Glenn Barkley (right) and celebrated artist
Guy Warren under a Bert Flugelman sculpture in the University grounds,
said she could really see the connection between the trees and birds of
the UOW campus, and the beauty of the Royal National Park.
