ITC Chairman awarded
French decoration

The Chairman of the
Illawarra Technology Corporation (ITC), Mr George Maltby AO, has been
awarded the French decoration of Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Merite
– (Order of Merit) the third highest award the French can bestow.
ITC, now in its 21st
year of operation, is the largest subsidiary of the University of Wollongong
(UOW) consisting of more than 200 (full-time equivalent) employees.
As a University subsidiary,
ITC is required to operate as an independent commercial entity and is
overseen by a commercially-experienced Board of Directors appointed by
the Council of the University.
The award to Mr Maltby
is in recognition of his devotion to France and his contribution to the
development of relations between France and Australia, in particular to
the defence industry field.
Recognised internationally
as a leader in the world telecommunications industry, Mr Maltby retired
in 1998 after 13 years as the Managing Director of Overseas Telecommunications
(OTC).
