Professor Stephen
Martin, a Professorial Fellow in the Graduate School of Business and Professional
Development, was the guest speaker at a Commerce and Business Chapter
of the UOW Alumni Association on 5 December.
Professor Martin
spoke at the breakfast seminar on the topic, "Financial deregulation a
la Keating: the real foundation of New Labor".
The former Federal
Member for Cunningham held the positions of Parliamentary Secretary for
Foreign Affairs and Trade, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and
was a Shadow Cabinet Minister in a number of portfolios including defence,
trade and small business.
Professor Martin is
well known for his chairmanship of the Martin Committee Inquiry into the
Australian banking industry in the early 1990s.
