luck --City to Surf 2002

who almost competed in the City to Surf run, displays his swollen

Ian Bridge was very
lucky participating in the recent City to Surf University team winning
a new Nokia mobile phone.
On the other hand,
UOW City to Surg organiser, Associate Professor John Montagner was very
unlucky spraining his ankle before even leaving Wollongong.
While running to load
up the buses with all the food and drinks he went over on his ankle and
by the time he reached Sydney it had swollen to the size of half a tennis
ball. An ice pack and compression bandage did little to reduce the swelling
and so John had to catch a cab to the finish!
More than 60,000 participated
in the event this year.
UOW had 264 on the buses -- 60 more than last year. This event has been
growing in popularity across campus from one bus load to five buses in
six years.
About 300 T-shirts
were distributed to team members. The T-shirts drew much favourable comment
on the day.
Organisers are planning
for more than 300 competitiors next year - and six busloads.
