Teachers at the University
of Wollongong Dubai Campus are the latest to benefit from a training course
aimed at enhancing teaching effectiveness.
English teacher Lois
Smith is the first representative from Dubai to graduate from the Introduction
to Tertiary Teaching (ITT) course offered by the Centre for Educational
Development and Interactive Resources (CEDIR).
Lois completed the
course by distance mode and recently travelled to the University of Wollongong
to be presented with her ITT certificate. While in Wollongong Lois also
received training to teach sections of the course in Dubai. She will now
return to Dubai as ITT Liaison for CEDIR.
All academic teaching
staff on campus in Dubai will be offered the opportunity to study the
course, at no cost, through CEDIR.
ITT coordinator Maureen
Bell, a senior lecturer in educational development at CEDIR said that
Lois was the 170th graduate of the course, which has been running since
1992.
She said the course
provides participants the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills
higher education, both for those new to tertiary education and UOW and
to those existing academic staff who might be looking for new ways of
thinking about their teaching.
CEDIR facilitates
and supports continuous development of high quality teaching and learning
practices, products and services for the UOW community.
