The
mace bearer, Judy Nolan, with the Chancellor, Mr Michael Codd, AC. In
the Medieval tradition, the mace is a symbol of the University and the
Chancellor's authority as its head, and is carried before the Chancellor
on formal occasions such as graduation ceremonies. It is carried on the
right shoulder of the mace bearer.
