Award - Categories and Entries
The Library has great pleasure in offering you an exhilarating range of databases and full text journals.
Link to current trials via the Market Day Database Trials page at http://www-library.uow.edu.au/Database/market.htm
Many of the databases require passwords. A list can be obtained from the Library Information Desk or phone for details, quoting your name and ID number.
The market day theme allows members of the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) and selected vendors the opportunity to communicate with each other about existing electronic products and product developments on an annual basis. The emphasis is on providing full text to users and several of the principal vendors have provided access to their most significant resources.
These trials are conducted on a national level and generally lead to university libraries being able to purchase databases at cheaper rates on a consortium basis. The trials give both the Library and end users the opportunity to evaluate the resources in terms of content and access. Feedback from academics and students is an essential component of these trials so that library staff can take decisions about purchasing databases which meet the needs of our users.
Vendors and products include:

The Administrative Committee of the University Council has agreed that greater resources should be directed towards improving personal safety in the car parks at night.
Some examples of the improvements that will now be made are enhanced lighting in the car park to the west of the Library/ITRC, additional emergency telephones and more prominent identification of safe pathways.
The Administrative Committee noted that the permit rates were last reviewed as long ago as 1991 and that there had been significant increases in the direct costs of administering the car parks since then.
The following parking fees have been approved for 1999 :
Disabled permits will now be issued free of charge.

The Committee for University Teaching and Staff Development (CUTSD) has announced the successful applications for:
UOW has done extremely well gaining four grants, all in collaboration with other universities. Developing collaborative grant proposals takes a lot of time and effort but the end-result is hopefully significantly better in terms of system-wide impact.
UOW received one Organisational grant - only nine have been awarded nationally from a total of 85 applications received. The University has also won three Staff Development grants -- only 12 have been awarded.
Abstracts for successful projects can be seen on the CUTSD web site at: http://services.canberra.edu.au/CUTSD/
The Buildings and Grounds Division are in the process of revising the wasterecycling processes on campus in an effort to reduce the volume of waste sent directly to landfill.
