The Australian Academy of Science funds one conference every other year in physical and mathematical sciences, related to the solid Earth, the terrestrial oceans, the Earth's atmosphere, solar-terrestrial science, space science and astronomy.
Conferences are usually of two days duration, with a membership of 20 to 30.
A sum of up to $10 000 is allocated for the 99/2000 conference, to be held in the period 1 July 1999 to 30 June 2000, and the Academy's Becker building is available free of charge.
The conferences are made possible by the late Lady White and the late Sir Frederick White, and organisers are asked to advertise their conference as an Elizabeth and Frederick White Conference.
Societies and organisers are invited to submit a one page expression of interest to hold a conference setting out the aims, objectives and timelines of the program; evidence of support from the relevanr scientific society should also be provided. Successful proposers will be invited to provide a detailed proposal for further assessment.
Expressions of intent should be submitted to Faye Nicholas at the Australian Academy of Science, GPO box 783, Canberra 2601. Fax 02 6257 4620 email ac@science.org.au
