Sister city relationship celebrated

The Kawasaki International Association Delegation with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peter Robinson; the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Anne Pauwels; and staff and students from the Modern Languages Program.

A delegation from the Kawasaki International Association led by Mr Seiichiro Yoshiham and Mr Kondo Yukinaga visited Wollongong recently to commemorate the 10th anniversary year of having formed a sister city association between the City of Wollongong and Kawasaki City.

On 20 October the delegation visited the University of Wollongong and in particular the Modern Languages Program which has a special relationship with Kawasaki.

Kawasaki is host city to the Program’s country second year Japanese language course, a compulsory requirement for the Japanese studies major.

Staff of the Program are appreciative of the help which they always receive since it would not be possible to offer the summer session each year in Kawasaki without the help of the Kawasaki Municipal Council, the Kawasaki International Association and, most particularly, its Executive Director, Mr Seiichiro Yoshihama.

They're off in the Sydney to ’Gong bike ride...

The University of Wollongong is expected to field a team of about 50 staff and students for the 1998 Sydney to ’Gong Bike Ride on Sunday 1 November.

The event helps to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis and at the same time serves as a useful promotion for the University.
There will be two rides for riders to choose from -- a 90 or a 60km ride.

One of the key organisers and bike rider is Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Bill Lovegrove, who will be competing in his last ride for Wollongong before taking up his new position as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Griffith University.
