The University is seeking an OH&S Officer with broad-based safety knowledge to work within the OH&S Unit. The University is, from a safety perspective, a very diverse environment. This role will involve the development, promotion and implementation of a wide range of OH&S initiatives, including policy development and review, OH&S training, Hazard and Risk assessment and accident investigation.
The successful applicant should possess tertiary qualifications with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of industry experience and training in OH&S. A sound working knowledge of OH&S related legislation and standards is essential. Applicants should have a thorough understanding of the practical implementation of Radiation Safety, Hazardous Substances, Dangerous Goods and associated laboratory safety legislation as well as experience in general safety matters. Knowledge of workers compensation and injury management practices is desirable.
Applicants should possess initiative and well developed written and oral communication skills. The ability to effectively interact with staff at all levels, and work autonomously within a small team is required. Computer literacy and a drivers licence are essential.
A knowledge of quality assurance would be an advantage and an understanding of EEO issues is desirable.

CEDIR assists and develops University teachers to enhance the quality of education for Wollongong Graduates no matter where in the world they choose to study. The teams within CEDIR work collaboratively with academic staff to enhance University-wide educational practice through educational development and the production of a wide range of resources. CEDIR is looking for a number of creative and customer-oriented people to join our production and service teams.
Interactive Media Production (IMP), within CEDIR, produces courseware and multimedia programs to support University teaching as well as for external clients. The successful applicants for these two positions will be part of a team working on the design and development of teaching and learning packages.

A highly organised person is required to support all aspects of the production of interactive resources, and provide administrative support to the unit. The position will involve working on a range of projects, including assisting in the production of software packages and maintaining the secretariat for a national professional society.
The successful applicant should possess an associate diploma in computing with relevant work related experience, or a certificate in computing with post certificate relevant work experience, or a combination of relevant experience and/or education/training deemed to be equivalent. The applicant requires at least twelve months experience in the use of a word processing package, such as MS Word, experience in pressing CD ROMS, knowledge of HTML, a high level of computer literacy and some basic bookkeeping skills. Good oral and written communication skills, the ability to work effectively as a member of a team, the ability to work under pressure, deliver results on time and to budget, and the ability to liaise and interact with senior staff, from both academia and off-campus organisations are also essential.
It is desirable that the appointee have experience in a tertiary sector environment and previous experience with Framemaker or equivalent desktop publishing software.

A highly creative person, you will be committed to client focused operation and be able to produce drawings, graphics and animations for inclusion in computer based teaching and learning software.
Applicants for this position require a degree in an appropriate discipline, or an associate diploma with subsequent relevant experience, or a combination of relevant experience and/or education/training deemed to be equivalent. The successful applicant requires superior knowledge of and the ability to use efficiently and effectively a number of commercial drawing, graphic (2 and 3 dimensional) and animation tools and an ability to work to client specification. They must have at least twelve months experience in production of screen-based computer graphics for inclusion in multimedia packages for delivery via CD-ROM and/or the world wide web. Commercial experience in this area is highly desirable.
The successful candidate requires good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of a team. The ability to liaise and interact with senior staff, from both within and outside the University, work under pressure, and to deliver results on time and to budget are desirable.

Audio-visual Production and Services (APS), within CEDIR, produces audio-visual resources to support University teaching as well as for external clients, and provides a loan and support service for audio-visual and computer equipment related to teaching and learning. The successful applicants for these two positions will be part of the team supporting academic staff and students to enhance the teaching/learning experience.

APS requires a client focused, technology aware Facilities Officer to control bookings, facilitate loans, and monitor audio-visual and computer equipment used by University staff and students. The successful applicant will also advise clients on the setting up and operation of equipment. Other duties will involve the Facilities Officer in video and audio tape duplication and records maintenance.
The successful applicant must have at least 12 months operational experience with audio-visual and computer equipment in an educational or training environment; have a customer focussed attitude; be able to work effectively as a member of a team; and possess good communications skills, both oral and written.
It is desirable that their experience includes twelve months in a front line client service role and that they can be flexible in workplace practices.

APS requires an experienced, client focused video production person to join the talented team producing video resources to enhance the teaching/learning opportunities for students both on-campus and at a distance. CEDIR not only provides support to the academic community but also undertakes educational projects for off-campus clients which may require travel and absences from Wollongong in order to complete location shoots.

The Faculty of Arts is seeking to make two appointments to the English Studies Program which offers undergraduate subjects in Australian, British, American and Post-colonial Literatures, with strands in Drama and Womens Writing. It also offers postgraduate degrees by thesis or coursework in English Studies and in Post-colonial Literatures, and contributes to the postgraduate degrees in Womens Studies and Cultural Studies. The Program has links to the journals New Literatures Review, Australian Canadian Studies and Kunapipi, and is closely associated with the Centre for Research in Textual and Cultural Studies which is affiliated with the Facultys Research Institute of Social Change and Critical Inquiry. Successful applicants for both positions must be able to work collaboratively within a flexible faculty structure which encourages interdisciplinarity and will have opportunities to participate in the Research Institute.
Continuing Appointment
The successful applicant will be required to contribute to the Programs teaching at all levels, especially in the field of Australian literary culture. The appointee will be responsible for the preparation of two existing subjects in Australian Literature for flexible delivery into the Nowra Campus from 2001. There will be limited opportunities for supervision. The ability to teach Australian Studies, Womens Studies or English Language Studies would be an advantage, as would an interest in Critical Theory. Applicants must have demonstrated teaching experience of high quality in the relevant area (with some experience of subject design and co-ordination highly desirable), together with demonstrated interest in flexible methods of subject delivery. The appointee must have completed (or have under examination) a doctorate, and will be expected to pursue research within one or more of the fields mentioned above. Reference RL98200. The successful applicant will be required to contribute to the Programs teaching at all levels, especially in the fields of Drama and Theatre Studies and Womens Studies, and to provide supervision to doctoral level. The appointee will be responsible for the co-ordination of the Drama strand within the Program. The ability to teach Critical Theory or English Language Studies would be an advantage. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability in designing, co-ordinating and teaching subjects in a relevant area. The successful applicant will be responsible for the organisational and technical support for undergraduate and postgraduate laboratory classes in the areas ranging from Biochemistry/Cell and Molecular Biology to Ecological based subjects. Other maintenance and technical duties will be required.
Applicants must possess an Associate Diploma in an appropriate discipline with relevant work related experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training. Experience and a demonstrated competency in laboratory techniques is essential. The successful applicant must be able to work productively with minimal supervision, have the ability to work effectively in a team, and possess excellent communication and organisational skills. A current class 1A drivers licence, computer literacy with desktop computers, and the ability to work flexible hours are also essential.
Experience with laboratory preparation in a teaching environment; setting up class laboratories; use of sterile techniques; and competency in the use of sophisticated equipment relevant to Biochemistry and Ecology is desirable. Experience working in the field; plant and animal collecting and/or curating; as well as an understanding of OHS and EEO issues would also be highly regarded.
