The University of Wollongong has won the
past two national Formula SAE-A championships – contested
by engineering students from universities around Australia
who design and build racing cars for a series of competitions
based on design, engineering, speed, economy and endurance.
Wollongong’s world champion motor racer Wayne Gardner
launched the Steel City Racer’s national title bid
in November 2003. The UOW team will now take their Steel
City Racer to Detroit for the world’s biggest Formula
SAE championships in May, in a bid to add international honours
to their national title.
