Pink ribbon breakfast for breast cancer research
Oct 22, 2003
October is internationally recognised as Breast Cancer Month and Holly Tootell, an Associate Lecturer with the School of Information Technology and Computer Science (SITACS), will be hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast for breast cancer research to raise awareness about the importance of research to raise vital funds. About 10,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year and many others - their partners, families, friends and work colleagues - are directly affected by this disease. On Monday 27 October "Pink Ribbon Breakfasts for breast cancer research" will be held to celebrate progress so far in the search for a cure to the disease and to raise funds and awareness about the importance of such research. Money raised from the breakfasts will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation established in 1994 to promote and support vital research into all aspects of breast cancer. To date the Foundation has allocated $12.4 million to 77 breast cancer research projects across Australia into the treatment, prevention and detection of breast cancer. "So join the party - it will be a fun morning. By attending and buying a pink ribbon you have the chance to make the difference to another woman's life," Holly said.
