Golden Key Induction Ceremony
Oct 31, 2003
About 500 people recently attended a Golden Key Induction Ceremony for new members at the University Hall. There are 329 new members with about 150 of these members turning up on the night with their families and friends. The three honorary members attending were the Member for Throsby, Ms Jennie George; Mr David Morgan Williams (DMW Group) and Mr David Laing (Forbes Rigby Pty Ltd). Each year, the chapter invites a number of individuals who exemplify the values of Golden Key to become honorary members and to provide the chapter with greater links with the community. Golden Key is an international student society, which partners with more than 320 member universities in Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, and the USA. Golden Key endeavours to acknowledge and reward academic achievement, as well as award scholarships, career assistance and promote community service initiatives. The University of Wollongong Chapter, chartered in 2000, has sought to take on a leadership role with members using and developing their skills in a service manner for the benefit of all students. Last year the Golden Key Chapter initiated the inaugural Illawarra Graduate Careers Fair when 29 local businesses met more than 800 UOW students from all disciplines during the Fair, held in the University Hall. The success of the fair was recognised at the International Convention of Golden Key held in Atlanta, United States.
