Linkage Grant success to have impact on ambulatory care service

Nov 17, 2003

Members of the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Wollongong were joined by industry partners for a celebratory morning tea after successfully obtaining a grant to develop a new digital health system which could have wideranging implications for mobile health care services.

The grant is an ARC Linkage Grant for a project to commence in 2004 with UOW and Industry partners Illawarra Area Health Service (IAHS) and Pen Computing.

The aim of the Project is to develop a Personal Digital Assistant(PDA) based Point of Care (POC) eHealth solution for Ambulatory Care Services.

The system will enable mobile care workers from TACT to access client and other health related information at the point of care ie: in the client's home.

Lecturer at the Faculty of Informatics, Lois Burgess said the introduction of the system will enable efficiency gains to be achieved across a number of areas in the ambulatory care service.

"It is expected that the system will be relevant to mobile health situations across a wide range of healthcare services," Ms Burgess said.
