Federal MP launches Shoalhaven campus booklet

Federal MP Joanna Gash today praised the University of Wollongong's role in supporting the Shoalhaven community when she launched a booklet about the University's Shoalhaven Campus. Launching Shoalhaven Campus - Real People, Real Outcomes, the Member for Gilmore said the University was a "quality institution with a quality chief executive" and she commended what she described as a quality publication which depicted the views of people who were benefiting from the university's presence in the Shoalhaven. "The University of Wollongong is a great friend as far as the Shoalhaven is concerned," Ms Gash said. "It leaves nothing to chance, and has established the Shoalhaven Campus as a part of one of the top-performing universities in Australia." Ms Gash said the booklet was about the relationships between the Shoalhaven community and its University Campus, and reflected the importance of those relationships. "We can all look forward to this (booklet) contributing to the future of this Campus, which I know will go from success to success." The booklet contains profiles of Shoalhaven Campus students and graduates describing their education experiences and outcomes, and will be distributed to schools and community groups throughout the Shoalhaven. UOW Vice-Chancellor Professor Gerard Sutton said the booklet was the story of real people telling of the excitement about the outcomes being achieved through the Shoalhaven Campus. Professor Sutton, who also presented academic excellence awards to Shoalhaven Campus students at the ceremony, described the day as "signifying the excitement I detect here on the Campus". He said the University of Wollongong stood for academic excellence, and the whole UOW community was proud of the results being achieved by students at Shoalhaven campus. Professor Sutton paid tribute the Ms Gash for her pivotal support of the University within the Federal Government, including its current bid to establish a Graduate School of Medicine that would be located jointly at the Wollongong and Shoalhaven Campuses. He commended Campus Head Robbie Collins for the outstanding leadership she was showing in developing the Shoalhaven Campus, building on the pioneering work of former Head Ray Cleary.
