University librarian returns from long walk for charity

University of Wollongong librarian Rodney Horan has returned to Wollongong after walking all the way from Perth to raise money for liver cancer research.

The 40 year-old librarian left Perth on July 1 to make the 4500km journey by foot.

Mr Horan arrived home last weekend, welcomed by family, friends and well wishers at a celebration at North Wollongong Surf Club. Wollongong Mayor Councillor Alex Darling was among the well wishers.

He said that he had decided to organise the fundraiser with mate Steve Truman, called 'The Great Australian Stroll', after he lost his uncle and Mr Truman lost his father to cancer.

The walk was a complete success raising more than $30,000 along the way.
