Loftus Centre hosts Leadership forum
Feb 17, 2004
Interested in learning about leadership? The University of Wollongong's Loftus Education Centre's inaugural Leadership Network Meeting on March 11 has the answer. The Loftus Education Centre and the DMW Group have combined to present "What is This Thing Called Leadership?" as the theme for the first network meeting. The meeting will be held in an open forum style with opening presentations from University of Wollongong doctoral researcher David Morgan Williams and Dr Tony Ball, who has a special interest in the theory and practice of leadership. Mr Williams, a successful businessman who runs Wollongong's largest human resources and recruitment consultancy the DMW Group and has a Master of Business Administration from UOW, is currently researching leadership issues for his doctorate. He and UOW's Business School have established a leadership and development group that conducts monthly network meetings in Wollongong that have proved popular among business people. "We are looking to extend the successful formula out to the University's sites outside Wollongong," Mr Williams said. "The Loftus Education centre looked a good place to start. There is the natural audience among companies at the Sutherland Shire Business Incubator which shares the same building, while the Shire has such a range of businesses from small to really large corporations that may be interested in this opportunity to exchange views on leadership and hear about the latest research. "It is certainly a very topical and much-studied area, and we hope people in southern Sydney will see this as a great opportunity to do something that's a little different. It's a great way for people to network, and it makes a nice change to talking about the footy." Mr Williams the network meetings also provided a relaxed introduction to the university environment. Mr Willliams said the first meeting would involve short presentations on current research and trends, followed by an open forum discussion. The meeting will be held at the Loftus Education Centre in Rawson Street (immediately to the right inside the Loftus TAFE gates) from 5.30-8.30pm on Thursday, 11 March. Cost is $20 and light refreshments are included. For bookings, call the Loftus Education Centre (9545 0000) or the DMW Group (42296733).
