National Centre of Excellence in Functional Foods' conference success
Feb 27, 2004
More than 130 senior managers and executives from the food industry's innovation, regulation and research areas participated in the First Conference of the National Centre of Excellence in Functional Foods (NCEFF) held on 20 February.
Delegates enjoyed presentations from expert commentators in the innovation, regulation and research areas including internationally recognised commentator and writer on Functional Foods, Dr Michael Heasman, on the global development of functional foods, Commonwealth Dept of Health and Ageing's Ms Sarah Major, on the regulation of health claims surrounding functional foods, and the Director of the Centre Professor Linda Tapsell (based the University of Wollongong) on how the Centre proposes to work with the food industry to maximise opportunities for the development of new functional foods.
Opportunities for partnerships and collaborations will be explored over the next few months and a follow up event is planned in 12 months to update the food industry on the Centre's progress.
The Centre is an initiative of the National Food Industry Strategy Ltd, supported by the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry.
