The early bird catches the degree . . .

Save on stress – get in early. This was the message going out to students who attended interviews for the Faculty of Informatics Early Entry Program held at the University of Wollongong Hall today (October 1). The Early Entry program gives current Year 12 students the chance to apply for early entry into a number of the Informatics degrees including Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering, Information Engineering, Physics Technology and Computer Science and Mathematics and Applied Statistics. Entry is based on the student’s trial HSC results, along with a resume/portfolio and an interview. Current UOW students who were accepted via Early Entry strongly recommend the program, saying that it allowed them to relax and really concentrate on the HSC, with the knowledge that they had already been accepted to UOW. Bachelor of Computer Science student, Andrew Jones, was accepted through the Informatics Early Entry program last year and strongly urges Y12 students to apply. “There’s certainly nothing to lose by applying. The interview is not at all scary…and you are much better off going into the HSC knowing you are guaranteed a place at university, whatever happens. It takes a lot of the stress out of the exams,” he said. UOW offers Early Entry through the Faculties of Informatics, Science, Engineering and Physics and for the Indigenous Health and Population Health degrees in the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences. Students who attended the University for interviews today were also offered a guided tour of the Wollongong campus, and the opportunity to discuss their areas of interest with academic advisers. -RP
