Final year engineering student's winning ways
Oct 07, 2004
A final year Materials Engineering student, Lucy Miller, (pictured) represented the University of Wollongong at the annual Undergraduate Student Forum organised by the Institute of Materials Engineering Australia (IMEA). Lucy made a presentation on her thesis project on magnesium diboride superconductors. Lucy also recently won the NSW/ACT scholarship from Ove Arup (worldwide structural engineers) - a competition open to final year engineering students. Lucy made a presentation on the use of metallic glasses in reinforced concrete and for this she was awarded $1,000 and a trophy. She then represented the state at the national level competition. Lucy was flown to Brisbane for a further presentation and interview. She said the CEO of Ove Arup made positive comments about engineering graduates in general from UOW. And they offered her a job!
