Golden Key opens door to new members
Oct 25, 2004
The mission of Golden Key is to build a global community of academic achievers by providing opportunities for individual growth through leadership, career development, networking and service.
Another 250 high-achieving University of Wollongong students became part of this ‘global community’ last week (Monday 18 October) when UOW’s Golden Key International Society held their 5th New Members Reception in the University Hall.
Golden Key also awarded four scholarships of $450 to new members who are active in the community and maintain an excellent academic record. On display were the society’s achievements for 2004 to help create an awareness of past, current and ongoing activities of the Golden Key. Attending guests and Golden Key honorary members included Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Rob Castle; Academic Registrar, Dr David Christie; Deputy Academic Registrar, Nathan Asher; Career Development Unit Coordinator, Tony Elshof; Directing Manager of Cleverlink, Ms Camtu Pham and Regional Director of Golden Key Asia-Pacific, Dean Butters. Remaining activities for the Golden Key Society include:
- Establishing a new e-mail list to reach student and alumni Golden Key members and Honorary Members
- Setting up a new website for the society
- Establishing a relationship with Barnardos and their Homework Buddy Mentoring Program, an education focused program where volunteers help socio-economic, disadvantaged children with numeracy and literary skills
- Further work from the Golden Key Knitting Group
- Transition Training for the new Executive Board
