Sponsors thanked for scholarship support

The University of Wollongong's Office of Community and Partnerships hosted a function last week (Monday 15 November) to thank sponsors who helped the University provide 333 scholarships for students in 2004.

The sponsors represented companies and organisations from the Illawarra and South Coast as well as national corporations.

Their support assists the University to provide a range of scholarships that often also provide invaluable work experience opportunities for students as well as financial support.

UOW Development and Scholarships Coordinator Patrick O'Connor said the sponsors provided a valuable resource for the University, and it was important that their support for students was recognised.

“This function was an opportunity for the University of Wollongong to publicly cknowledge and thank our corporate sponsors for their valuable contributions,” Mr O'Connor said.

He said sponsors were able to share scholarship experiences with each other, scholarship holders and University staff.

“Sponsorship works well for the University and for the corporations involved, because it gives them the opportunity to interact with students and become part of the University community. It is also useful for recruitment because it allows them to get to know students who may well be potential staff for them in the future.”
