Dec 08, 2004
Two of the University of Wollongong’s most ‘exceptional’ engineering students, Neda Zamani and Efthalia Kazepidis, have been awarded ‘ABC Women in Engineering Scholarships’ by the ABC Director of Technology and Development, Mr Colin Knowles. The scholarships are part of the national broadcaster’s commitment to inspiring and promoting the education, training and advancement of engineering young women in the broadcast industry. “The Scholarships are awarded nationally to women in their final year of study in Electrical Engineering who have an interest in broadcasting, telecommunications or information technology,” said Mr Knowles at the awards presentation night held at the ABC’s Ultimo Centre this week (Monday 6 December). Mr Knowles described Nadia and Efthalia as ‘outstanding’ young women who were perfect candidates for the scholarships with their consistently exceptional grades and obvious enthusiasm for the broadcasting industry. Both students also earned a place on this year's UOW Dean’s Merit List for finishing in the top 5% of students. They will each receive a cash prize of $1,500 and valuable industry experience in the technology area of the ABC. -RP
