Fading Lines: Australian Artists in Pakistan
Dec 22, 2004
A travelling exhibition entitled, Fading Lines: Australian Artists in Pakistan, has been organised by graduates of UOW's Faculty of Creative Arts. Atiya Hasan, who graduated in 2002, and is now based in Pakistan, took the initiative in inviting a group of young Australian artists to the country to show their work. The former students included in the exhibition are Tamara Gulic, Rochelle Haley, Atiya Hasan, Virginia Mawer and Dimple Rajyaguru. This art collective has come together to put on a show that will travel through Pakistan, showing in Islamabad and Lahore. The works exhibited range from painting, drawing and printing to photomedia and video, and also textiles and bookmaking. The exhibition will officially open in Islamabad on 15 January and will finish in Lahore on 31 January 2005. It has been sponsored by the Australian Embassy in Pakistan. During the exhibitions, workshops will be held in both cities. Tamara Gulic will teach natural dying techniques, Rochelle Haley and Atiya Hasan will run drawing classes and Virginia Mawer will teach printmaking. Organisers believe the exhibition will provide an important opportunity for a cross cultural exchange and might encourage further interaction. The exhibition may come to Australia later in 2005. The artists have expressed their gratitude to the Nomad Gallery in Islamabad and the Australian Embassy in Pakistan for their support of the project.
