From a magnetic freeway to a wireless home alarm system. . .

New age, technology-driven student products filled the University Hall last week (Friday 21 October) when the University of Wollongong's School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering hosted its 8th Annual Trade Fair. The projects were from second and third year Bachelor of Engineering students enrolled in Engineering Design and Management as well as second year students enrolled in the Bachelor of Internet Science and Technology. Projects fell into the categories of 'Personal Safety or Security in the Community: Support for the Disabled', 'Home safety and automation' and 'Hardware and Software Projects that will benefit Australian Society'. The innovative range of student inventions included an Automatic Aquarium, Gas Leak Sensor, Magnetic Freeway, Wireless Home Alarm System, Project Rainkiller, UniRide Project Plan, Heart Rate Sensor, Smoke Detector and many more. Companies including BlueScope Steel, Tycan Australia Pty Ltd and Spruson & Ferguson donated cash prizes as did UOW's Faculty of Informatics and the School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering. Awards were presented on the day for Most Popular Display.
