Visiting professor to conduct final managerial seminar

The holder of the Salvesen Chair and Director of Graduate Programs at the University of Aberdeen Business School, Professor Patrick Dawson, has been a special guest recently of the School of Management and Marketing at the University of Wollongong.

He has been delivering a series of seminars and workshops and will present his final seminar (“Discourse and Audience: Organisational Change as Multi-Story Process”) on Thursday 10 November from 12.30pm to 2pm in Room 130 of Building 40.

Professor Dawson has published over 50 articles in scholarly books and in a wide range of refereed journals including Journal of Management Studies; Organization Studies; Scandinavian Journal of Management; Work, Employment & Society; Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources; New Technology, Work and Employment; and Technology Analysis & Strategic Management.

He has also published a number of research books including Technology and Quality: Change in the Workplace, London: International Thomson Business Press, 1996; and Organizational Change: A Processual Approach, London: Paul Chapman Publishing, 1994. He co-authored with former UOW Commerce Dean, Professor Gill Palmer, the findings from an ARC program of research on the uptake of total quality management in organisations, entitled: Quality Management: The Theory and Practice of Implementing Change, Melbourne, Longman, 1995. In 2000, he co-edited a four volume series of books on Technology and Organisations: Critical Perspectives on Business Management, London: Routledge.

Two of his recent research books are Reshaping Change: A Processual Perspective. London: Routledge, and Understanding Organizational Change: The Contemporary Experience of People at Work. London: Sage.

His first piece of research was conducted in 1980 into the effects of Computer Aided Design (CAD) on skilled engineering draughtsmen and draughtswomen working within the UK aerospace industry. Since this time, he has been involved in a number of longitudinal studies of change in companies such as British Rail, General Motors, Hewlett Packard, Pirelli Cables, Aberdeen Asset Management, Shell, Britax and the State Bank of South Australia.
