Dec 09, 2005

Talented mathematics and computing students in Years 7-12 were given the chance to participate in a series of enrichment programs run by the Faculty of Informatics this year at the University of Wollongong.

This week a number of students received awards for their achievements.

Certificates were presented to over 70 students in years 7 -11 for the Illawarra High Schools Maths competition. Certificates were also given out to students whoparticipated in the Saturday School enrichment sessions. Over 130 students recieved certificates for their overall involement in this particular program.

Over 1300 students visited UOW this year to hear presentations broadly centred on mathematical, computer and electrical engineering-orientated subjects, led by interested members of staff.

Organiser Daniel Saffioti, a lecturer in the School of Information Technology and Computer Science, said the program has proved highly successful and he plans to continue it in 2006.

"We would like to encourage people to send us thoughts and opinions on what they enjoyed about the programs and how we could better improve it," he said.
