Biological Sciences hosts high school students' visit

Dec 15, 2005

Thirty eight students from Gunnedah High School, St Johns Park High and Singleton High recently visited Biological Sciences at the University of Wollongong as part of an overall project aimed at fostering school students' interest in science, technology and mathematics.

The Head of the School of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Bill Buttemer, said the visit was made possible through a grant given to the school from the Federal Government under the Australian Schools Innovation in Science, Technology and Mathematics.

Students visiting UOW participated in a project involving testing fresh and salt water and examining the life forms contained in these waters.

Professor Buttemer said the project was part of the University's overall commitment to its wider community but it might also aid in student recruitment to UOW down the track.
