UOW racing car finishes close second in the United States

Jun 23, 2006

The University of Wollongong’s Faculty of Engineering is celebrating after its Formula SAE racing team finished a close second in an international championship in the United States.

Formula SAE is a competition between teams of university students who design, build and compete in racing cars.

Last weekend the UOW team finished second to Texas A&M University in the Formula USA West Championship at the California Motor Speedway at Fontana – building on the reputation UOW established in the United States when its team won the 2003 world championship at Detroit, Michigan at only its second attempt.

It was the first non-American team to win the championship.

In this year’s event at Fontana, UOW scored near perfect marks in all categories, and was the top performing team in the dynamic events.
