UOW Dean a finalist in Classical Music Awards

Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts at the University of Wollongong, Professor Andrew Schultz, has been announced as a finalist in the prestigious 2006 Classical Music Awards for his composition, Journey to Horseshoe Bend.
The dramatic Cantata, first performed in 2003 by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and released on ABC Classics in 2005, has been nominated for the high profile 'Vocal or Choral Work of the Year' category.
The peice has drawn extraordinary public praise and critical plaudits being described as 'bridging a great divide, a cultural chasm centuries long" (Gramophone Magazine) and as an 'important work' and a 'moving hymn to the transformative power of the Australian landscape' (Sydney Morning Herald).
Professor Schultz's music, which covers a broad range of chamber, orchestral, operatic and vocal works, has been performed, recorded and broadcast widely by many leading groups and musicians and he is the recipient of awards and prizes including a Fulbright Scholarship, the National Opera Award, Arts Council Fellowships and APRA Classical Composition of the Year. The winners of the Classical Music Awards will be announced live on ABC Classic FM on Monday 7 August.
