A showcase of new age, technology-driven student products and projects were on display last week (Friday 20 October) when the University of Wollongong’s School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering hosted its 9th Annual Trade Fair. The projects were from second and third year Bachelor of Engineering students enrolled in Engineering Design and Management as well as second year students enrolled in the Bachelor of Internet Science and Technology. Projects fell into the categories of ‘Personal Safety in the Community: Support for the Disabled’ and ‘Hardware and Software Projects that will benefit Australian Society’. The wide variety of student inventions included a Home Health Care Unit, Independence Aid, Motion Measuring Electronic Device, Fall Monitor and Vital Signs Monitor, ISeeU Security System, Advance Fence Monitoring System, Online Doctors Surgery Reservation and a Medical Online Database. Companies including BlueScope Steel, Tycan Australia Pty Ltd and Spruson & Ferguson donated cash prizes, as did UOW’s Faculty of Informatics and the School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering. Awards were presented on the day for the Most Popular Display.
