UOW thanks sponsors for scholarship support
Nov 13, 2006
Scholarship sponsors are vital in assisting the University of Wollongong to reward and encourage excellence and help students achieve their dreams. As a token of appreciation, UOW's Office of Community and Partnerships recently hosted a cocktail function to formally acknowledge and reward the sponsor's contributions for 2006 which involved providing over 100 scholarships to a range of students. Over 30 sponsors attended the event, representing companies and organisations from the Illawarra and South Coast as well as national corporations including the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA), BlueScope Steel and National Australia Bank (NAB). The function was also attended by 70 scholarships students from UOW as well as members of the Senior Executive and Faculty Deans. Sponsor support assists the University in providing a range of scholarships that often in turn provide invaluable work experience opportunities for students as well as financial support. Guest speakers included Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerard Sutton, who spoke about the importance of the Scholarship Program and the benefits of partnering with an innovative organisation like UOW; Dean of Students, Yvonne Kerr, who spoke about the benefits the program provides to student with disabilities and disadvantaged students and former scholarship recipient, Christie Wade, who spoke about her experiences with Odyssey travel and how her Work-Integrated Learning Scholarship has assisted her with her career ambitions with Qantas. "This function was a chance for UOW to recognise the involvement of our sponsors," said Development and Scholarships Co-ordinator, Randi Morris. "It was a great opportunity for students and sponsors to be able to interact and share their scholarship experiences."
