Environmental Science students present final projects
Nov 24, 2006
A group of fourth year Bachelor of Environmental Science students recently presented their final year research projects at a seminar held at the University of Wollongong. The research projects were completed in collaboration with external organisations, allowing the students to obtain a broader understanding of the range of environmental issues requiring study in the Illawarra region. Topics for the projects included the environmental status of Tom Thumb lagoon, a pre-mining study of the Hawkesbury sandstone, the better management of Wollongong's beaches, review of the migratory listed birds and the differences in the environmental conditions of mangrove forests in the presence of the absence of cattle. Representatives from different organisations also attended the seminar and provided feedback to the students.
Organisations included Wollongong City Council, Shoalhaven City Council, Shellharbour City Council, Port Kembla Port Corporation, ANSTO, Department of Primary Industries (Agriculture), Department of Primary Industries (Fisheries), Booderee National Park and the NSW Department of Natural Resources (South Coast Region).
