Forum held as prelude to national technical staff conference
Dec 11, 2006
In 2008 the work that technical staff perform behind the scenes at the University of Wollongong (UOW), along with their colleagues from across the country will be highlighted at the Australian TechNet conference, which the UOW TechNet group plans to host. A rejuvenated UOW group has now reconvened and comprises of technical staff from across a number of faculties including Science, Health and Behavioural Sciences and Engineering with some support provided from Professional and Organisational Development Services (PODS). As a prelude to this national conference, UOW’s TechNet group recently held a technical staff forum at the UniCentre Function Rooms. One of the organising committee at UOW, Mrs Julie Gray, said it was a great warm-up exercise for the 2008 national conference. The theme for the forum was “Discovering your Technical Community". The draft program featured an opening address by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Margaret Sheil, who is also the TechNet patron, a keynote address by Professor Julie Steele from Health and Behavioural Sciences and presentations from staff of Occupational Health and Safety and Professional and Organisational Development Services. The forum day was an excellent opportunity for a number of local technical staff to present brief details about their own areas of expertise.
