Summer graduation underway at UOW
Dec 12, 2006
About 2,500 graduands out of an eligible 3,093 will converge on the University of Wollongong this week to attend the December graduation ceremonies. The University will play host to more than 10,000 people during the week including the graduands, their families and friends. There will be two ceremonies a day and an extra evening ceremony on Wednesday 13 December.
The first two ceremonies were held yesterday (Monday 11 December) and featured an Occasional Address from Premier's Fellow and Professor of Astronomy at the University of Western Australia, Professor Peter Quinn, and Professor Mary Chiarella from the Centre for Health Services Management at the University of Sydney.
One of the many graduates on Monday was Stephanie Frey (pictured) who graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing degree. She is an international student from Germany who has been successful in obtaining one of just two competitive new graduate registered nurse positions in the Emergency Department of Wollongong Hospital for 2007. Stephanie is also studying for her helicopter pilot's licence so she can work for the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia and then in a rescue helicopter. Stephanie and her family (who all travelled to Australia for the event) wore traditional national dress for the special occasion.
