ICIS celebrates its 21st birthday

Dec 15, 2006

The University of Wollongong's Illawarra Committee for International Students (ICIS) recently celebrated 21 years of service and support to international students on campus.

ICIS is a non-profit community group that provides services and activities that support the wellbeing of international students at the University of Wollongong.

Particular emphasis is given to the orientation, hospitality and recreational needs of students, and their families, during their stay in Wollongong.

ICIS creates a positive and welcoming environment during a period of significant cultural adjustment for most visiting students.

ICIS also promotes cross-cultural understanding, respect and tolerance by providing opportunities for meaningful interaction between international students and the local community, both on and off campus.

Three of the most popular programs ICIS offers are the International Friendship Program (IFP) where students are matched one-on-one with local volunteers or 'friendship partners', the free English conversation groups and the low-cost field trips.
