Over 5000 HSC students ‘discover’ UOW
Feb 14, 2007
Over 5000 students from 130 high schools flocked to the University of Wollongong last week (6 - 9 February) for the annual Discovery Days -- the University's largest undergraduate recruitment event. The aim of Discovery Days is to provide an opportunity for Year 12 students to experience, first-hand, what university life is like for a day. The day gives them an insight into student life including services and facilities on campus, subject selection as well as the experience of attending classes in their areas of interest. This year, the University welcomed students from high schools in the Illawarra, Southern Sydney, South Western Sydney, South Coast, Goulburn, Southern Highlands, ACT and many rural schools over the four-day period. All faculties were heavily involved in the planning of presentations for the event. Over the four days, students registered at the University Hall or Hope Theatre and were then dispersed across the campus in various lecture theatres and seminar rooms. A band also provided entertainment on the McKinnon lawn. See right for pictorial coverage of the event.
