Management students display poster project
May 10, 2007
Management students demonstrated their creativity, enthusiasm and knowledge of the application of management theory to real world corporate problems in a major poster display held today (10 May) in the foyer of the McKinnon Building. To demonstrate their understanding of the challenges managers face in organisations, 330 students presented 66 posters on a range of management issues.
Key organiser of the display, Dr Mario Fernando (School of Management and Marketing), said the group poster assessment was part of a simulation exercise to develop students' appreciation of the real complexities involved in managing contemporary organisations.
Poster topics included
workplace stress, women and diversity in the workplace, corporate
collapses/takeovers, social responsibility, privacy in the workplace and
drug testing.
"The group poster project aims to develop an appreciation of the role
management and other stakeholders play in developing competitive,
productive and rewarding organisations," said Dr Fernando.
Students were also required to produce an individual reflective essay
based on journal entries over the life of their project teams, to
demonstrate their ability to apply relevant management theories to their
team experiences in creating the group poster.
The reflective essay
allowed students to critique their individual experiences related to
their group's performance.
The exercise was repeated in the South Coast campuses where local tutors
reported equal enthusiasm and quality in students' work.
Dr Fernando praised his team on the excellent outcome that would not
have been possible without the commitment and passion of all those
involved with the teaching and administration of the subject, both in
Wollongong and South Coast campuses, especially Michael Gross, who
organised the South Coast campuses, and Wollongong head tutor, Zeenie
Hannif.
