Kooloobong and Careers Service create leaders
May 21, 2007
The University of Wollongong’s Careers Service and Kooloobong Student Accommodation recently joined forces to develop a new accelerated student development program to nurture emerging career leaders for the Australian force market. The initiative was aimed at growing the Kooloobong’s residents to meet the up-to-date graduate qualities of the University, to enhance their career skill and employability, and to reinforce their capability of adapting and progressing themselves in workplaces. The accelerated workshops featured orientations in critical thinking, personal integrity, effective resume/application writing, proactive interviews, and challenges for career leaders in the competitive edge. Careers Service Manager, Martin Smith, and his colleague, Jeffrey Riley, presented the lectures and practical sessions. Targeting not only Kooloobong’s residents, the workshops were open to residents across the University’s accommodation colleges allowing residents to build their friend networks and mutual interests. Students rated the workshops with very high satisfaction and said they were 'most relevant' to their career options. Senior Residents and Co-organisers, Amir Riahi, Behzad Fatahi, Ben Withers and Genesis Galacio said that the workshops substantially benefitted not only the attendees, but also the organisers themselves. The collaboration was supported by Student Residence Manager of Graduate House Kieraview and Kooloobong; Mary Sparks; Senior College Adviser, Marcus Riley and Kooloobong’s Senior Residents’ Team and Community Involvement Association (CIA).
