UOW hosts Mature Age Careers Conference
May 25, 2007
The annual Mature Age Careers Conference was held at the University of Wollongong yesterday (Thursday 24 May) in conjunction with The Illawara Seniors College and Community Sector Banking. The informative conference highlighted employment opportunities within different industry sectors, as well as further study options. Over 80 Illawarra Senior College Mature Age students attended the event. Mature Age students face many obstacles in retuning to study and re-entering the workforce. The Mature Age Careers Conference is the perfect opportunity to inspire students to achieve their career and study goals. In its seventh year with an established network of speakers, the conference featured Scott Butler from Butler and Pollock as the keynote speaker and Dr Pauline Lysaght, from the Faculty of Education who presented a workshop on multiple intelligences. Industry specialists were drawn from a variety of areas including Community Sector Banking, Access Community Group, the Illawarra Retirement Trust and Steelhaven Skills Centre. UOW representatives provided information on tertiary education opportunities.
