UOW Morning Teas raise almost $2000
May 28, 2007
A range of clubs and faculties on campus participated in Australia's Biggest Morning Tea last week, 'making every cup on campus count' and raising an impressive amount for the Cancer Council.
The UOW Rotaract Club put on a scrumptious spread of coffee, tea, cakes and slices to raise funds to support critical cancer research. With the help of local business including Picasso - The Art of Coffee, Muffin Break Wollongong, Baker's Delight Wollongong, Nonabel Bakery, Gwynneville Bakery, and Michel's Patisserie Figtree, the club raised almost $700. Club President, Emily Davis, said she was pleasantly surprised by the support they received and the amount of baked goods sold.
"The Rotaract Big Morning Tea was a huge success due to the combined efforts of each and every one of our club members," she said.
We were so appreciative of the community and campus support we received and we are thrilled that we were able to raise such a substantial amount."
In addition, the UOW Law Society raised $400, UniAdvice made over $200 and the Illawarra Committee for International Students (ICIS) collected $450 after adding some spice to the traditional morning tea by offering freshly made, authentic Chai (Indian) tea served with sweet samosas (pastry shells with a savoury potato, onion and pea stuffing) and other tasty Indian treats.
Australia's Biggest Morning Tea is the Cancer Council's largest annual fundraising event.
More than a million people participate in the nation-wide event each year and funds raised are vitally important to the Council's research initiatives -- education programs and support services for those diagnosed with cancer, their families and carers.
