Destination Prague for students attending youth leadership conference

Jun 07, 2007

Two University of Wollongong students will join students from 50 other countries at the International Youth Leadership Conference in Prague, Czech Republic, from 22-29 July.

Ben Moffitt, a third year Bachelor of Arts (Dean's Scholar Advanced Degree) student and a third year facilitator for the Black Opal Leadership Program run by the Centre for Student Development at UOW along with another facilitator from Black Opal, Steven Ngyuen (3rd year Arts/ Law), have been selected to attend.

They are being sponsored by the Black Opal Program and the Faculty of Law and are currently in discussion with the Faculty of Arts for further sponsorship for the trip.

It will be a truly international conference with an average of 130 attendees representing over 50 countries. The conference itself is composed of simulations of international organisations like the United Nations Security Council, International Criminal Court and European Parliament, presentations by the Czech Senate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and various embassies, as well as keynote speakers from around the world.

Past topics have focused on nuclear non-proliferation, human trafficking, UN reform, European Union enlargement and democratisation.
