SHARP trip to Moruya for 'Indigenous Health Check' promotion
Jun 13, 2007
Seven students from the University of Wollongong's Rural Health Club (SHARP -- Student Health Alliance for Rural Populations) recently attended a festival to promote the 'Indigenous Health Check' to young Indigenous children of the Eurobodalla area. “Healthy Kids Living Culture: get wise . . . get ya health check” was the theme of the day. Held at Moruya Showground, the event was attended by several hundred Indigenous school students. On hand to show their support were rugby league star David Peachy and former Olympian Nova Peris. Members of SHARP spent their day plastering arms (no broken bones -- just plenty of great, made-up stories) while talking to students about what they want to do when they finish school. SHARP representatives said it was a great opportunity to promote health careers among Indigenous students and to encourage them to follow their dreams.
