French Ambassador tours UOW

His Excellency Mr François Descoueyte, Ambassador of France to Australia, visited the University of Wollongong today (22 June) for site visits to key research centres and to meet staff and students who have research and study interests in France.
The Ambassador's visit to the main campus was hosted by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Margaret Sheil, who also presented a general overview of the University, including UOW research. His Excellency was accompanied on the trip to Wollongong by the Counsellor (Science) Embassy of France, Professor Michel Thibier and the President of the Australian French Association of Science and Technology, the Hon. John Murray. Site visits included inspections of the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics and the Mass Spectroscopy Facility. Staff and students who have research and study interests in France met the Ambassador at the McKinnon Building for a special reception. Those participating in this meeting included representatives from the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics, Faculty of Science, Telecommunications, and the Faculty of Engineering. The Ambassador later in the day attended a Lord Mayoral reception in Wollongong.
