Olympic hopeful training at UOW

Jul 05, 2007

Malaysian triathlete, Kimberly Yap, is training at the University of Wollongong for the next five weeks as part of the preparation she hopes will lead to her competing at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Kimberly is training with Jamie Turner from the University Recreation and Aquatic Centre (URAC) who is the coach of the NSW Institute of Sport Triathlon Emerging Athlete Program.

She is being supported with a scholarship from the sport's parent body, the International Triathlon Union and its main sponsor, the BG Group.

The primary objective of the scholarship program is to identify and provide support, resources and expertise to athletes from emegring/developing national federations to compete at World Cup, World Championship and Olympic level.

Kimberly, who comes from a swimming background, said she switched to triathlon because she loved the people and the challenge.
