UOW student directs world premiere play
Jul 06, 2007
The Last Eisteddfod production will receive its final encore tomorrow night (Saturday 7 July) when the closing performance is held at the Miners Lamp Theatre in Corrimal.
The world premiere musical satire, co-written and directed by University of Wollongong PhD biology student Amy Wyatt, is a riotous show that highlights the excitement and madness experienced within the amateur ranks and pokes fun at the often unattainable quest for a defining moment in the spotlight. The 40+ strong cast, crew and live orchestra has involved a range of students and staff from faculties across UOW. "The audience response has been overwhelming," said Amy. "We have had near capacity crows for each performance." The Last Eisteddfod is a colourful show that tells the story of an eclectic and eccentric bunch of characters who meet annually for their one big event - The Longlowong Regional Eisteddfod. When the town's only theatre is marked for demolition by the loca council, the Eisteddfod committee is forced to announce that all of their remaining funds will be used to stage The Last Eisteddfod. Many see this as their final chance to attain eisteddfod glory while others have less obvious and more interesting agendas.
