International House UOW helps residents become global citizens

27 Jul 2007 | Bernie Goldie

International House UOW demonstrated its commitment to student development recently by awarding 24 student development recognition awards - each providing one week's accommodation to UOW student residents.

These students attended 10 of the weekly student development evenings held at International House, ranging from yoga to indigenous issues.

Student Resident Managers of International House Dr Lindsay Oades and Alison Hemsley recently presented at the International Houses Worldwide Conference, in Edmonton, Canada, on the attributes developed in residents of international houses.

Dr Oades is leading a student development benchmarking exercise across the 16 international houses worldwide.

Further student development initiatives in 2007 at International House include 10 more Tuesday night sessions, BYO academic, global highway during International Week(with other residential communities), and charity challenge in which residents compete to see who can raise the most money for various community-based charities.

International House UOW is home for 218 residents from 25 nations.
