UniVative Illawarra strengthening students’ skills
1 Aug 2007 | Renee Criddle
The UniVative Illawarra program was held again recently, with the individual winners announced after an all morning judging session.
There were two teams of University of Wollongong students within the competition.
Cardno Forbes Rigby and Australian Health Management Group had their two teams working intensively over the past three weeks to make recommendations/solutions on a real workplace issue confronting the host organisations.
Both student teams presented their findings in a 20-minute presentation and a 15-page Business Report. The students, working in multi disciplinary teams, had been given 18 days to research the challenge and make recommendations for the host employer.
Judges, representing the host employer and the UOW Careers Service, identified the strongest presentation and the strongest report for each employer host.
“These decisions were informed according to the usefulness of the findings to the employer and other attributes which the university seeks to develop in all students – critical thinking, research, communication and teamwork,” said Careers Service Manager, Martin Smith.
“This is the fourth year of operation for UniVative Illawarra. Over the years many local organisations have benefited from the insights, the knowledge and the creative problem solving which the UniVative students provide. And the students themselves gain insights into real workplace issues and problems, as well as develop their employability skills.”
