UOW offers up a ‘Smorgasbord of Educational Technologies’

A one-day mini conference held at the University of Wollongong on Wednesday 27 September presented an overview of the many different ways educational technologies are currently being used at the University of Wollongong to enhance eTeaching and eLearning.

The conference, entitled “Serving up the future: A Smorgasbord of Educational Technologies”, was a joint project between the Centre for Educational Development and Interactive Resources (CEDIR) and the Faculty of Education’s Centre for Research into Interactive Learning Environments (RILE).

It also focussed on stimulating further innovative use of these different educational technologies.

Presentations were made by researchers and academics who are incorporating technologies in their teaching and learning and researching their own practice.

The main themes for the conference were collaborative learning communities, emerging technologies for multi-location teaching and bridging the technology gap.

Keynote speakers included Senior Education Officer in Information, Communication and Learning Technologies with the Catholic School Office, Paul Meldrum, and Resource Development Officer at TAFE Illawarra, Jo Kay.

Mr Meldrum spoke about some of the innovations that are happening in the classroom and suggested ways in which these ideas can be implemented in the tertiary sector.

Ms Kay, a freelance web designer, artist and facilitator, spoke about her research into online culture, social networking and virtual worlds and the possibilities these offer for education, communication and collaboration.
